(LONG ISLAND, NY) May 31, 2023 — Author Nicola Delacoeur has officially released a new novel entitled “Happenstance,” which is now available in eBook format at Amazon.com.

“I am absolutely thrilled to share my new full-length novel with the world at-large,” states Delacoeur, a New York native and self-described Anglophile. “I believe ‘Happenstance’ will interest a wide range of readers because it covers many themes, such as fate versus free will; self-awareness; grief and loss; love and friendship; history and culture; and second chances. My hope is that readers will come away feeling enlightened and inspired to seize every opportunity for happiness that comes their way throughout life.”
Categorized as contemporary women’s fiction, with a hint of romantic comedy, “Happenstance” is an introspective journey about loyalty and betrayal; love and loss; and whether choosing one’s own happiness is either an act of selfishness or a path to self-discovery. The main plot revolves around three characters who make up a rather unusual love triangle.
The novel follows Gillian Carlisle and Mike Russo who, despite their obvious differences, become the best of friends in college and form a bond that grows stronger with each passing year. After decades of nursing each other through failed relationships and broken hearts, they opt for the comfort and security of cherished friendship over the notion of romantic love by making a pact to marry if they're still single by age 40. The Manhattanites settle into successful careers, as well as their unique brand of “couplehood,” and divide their time between New York and the Cotswolds, specifically Bourton-on-the-Water in Gloucestershire, England.
As an author of royal biographies, the female protagonist’s latest pursuit requires the input of an expert in medieval military history. Enter Dr. Simon Hicks, a historian and college professor, who partners with Gillian to write the history of one of England’s famed warrior queens. The pairing is a success on a professional level; and the two become fast friends. However, Simon’s past poses a challenge; as his hardened heart opens to his new colleague, he must tread lightly or lose the friendship he has come to depend upon. Unbeknownst to Simon, Gillian is also grappling with her own dilemma, which throws her perfectly ordered world off kilter. Faced with an impossible choice, she must consider where true happiness resides…and if she’s brave enough to risk everything to find it.
“I think female readers, and those readers who identify as women, will find the main character’s conflict very relatable,” Delacoeur says with respect to her debut novel. “We often defer our needs in lieu of various obligations—whether designated or self-imposed—and by doing so delay our own happiness. I hope readers come away feeling emboldened to prioritize themselves and accept joy into their lives.”
“Happenstance” is now available in eBook format at Amazon.com. Consumers can choose to read the eBook on a tablet, phone, and/or app-enabled PC or Mac. The AmazonKindle app is free to download in the Apple App Store or Google Play and is compatible with android and iOS devices. Delacoeur is currently at work on an audiobook version of “Happenstance,” as well as a print edition; availability of the aforementioned formats is expected by early fall/early winter 2023 respectively. The author encourages prospective readers to follow her Instagram page, where she shares daily insights about her work and varied interests.
